삼위일체는 하나의 실체(實體) 안에 세 위격(位格)으로서 존재하는 하느님적 신비를 지칭한다.
하느님의 육화(肉化)와 은총(恩寵)과 함께 그리스도의 3대 신비를 형성하는 이 삼위일체 신비는
내재적 삼위일체(內在的 三位一體, Trinitas immanens)와 구세경륜적 삼위일체(救世徑輪的 三位一體, Trinitas oeconomica)로 구별되어 파악된다.
